Every path leads to one unhurried conversation.

What you get

Eight conversations, and it is written.

The prayers you prayed and what came of them, the things you learned the hard way, and the years behind the ones your family already knows.

You talk. I listen carefully. Your name is on the cover, and I am the one who asked the questions.

Why this exists

Every family has an instrument for passing down assets. Faith already passes down — at the table, in habit, by example. But the story of it has no instrument.

There is no form for it

Who this is for

Somebody who held it togetherand was never asked how.

It might be a family, a church, a business, or a marriage that went through a bad decade. Whoever held it together has been thanked many times, and the family still does not know how they did it.

And if you’re their son or daughter, there’s a way for you to give this too.

Three generations of a family together on a porch

The people it was all held together for

Zoom, or in person

Some things are only said in the room.

The First Chapter Challenge is on Zoom, wherever you are. A book can be too — or I come to you. Three days, four of the eight conversations recorded where you actually live, and the things you have kept opened on the table between us.

Somebody wanders in and corrects a date from the next room. Those are the passages families quote afterwards.

The Deep Roots, Wide Branches journals make a quiet stocking gift. See the journals.

For sons and daughters

Give your parent the gift of being asked.

Your mother or father tells the story. You keep the book. Your children get the film.

The storyteller always owns the finished work. When a son or daughter pays, you receive your own printed copies and a copy of the film files.

Brothers and sisters often give this together. Each of you can give a card, and every card counts toward the same film or memoir.

Legacy Gift card, $500 Legacy Gift card, $1,000 Family copies, $45 each

The full amount counts toward any film or memoir, and it is refundable within 12 months if your parent decides not to go ahead after a first conversation.

Is my mother going to find this too difficult?

Almost certainly not, and it is the thing families worry about most. She needs to hold a conversation for ninety minutes, which she does every week without thinking about it. Nothing to install, nothing to type, no deadline. If a video call goes wrong we use the telephone and I take notes.

And if you would rather she did not have to manage any of it, I will come to her.

What if my parent isn’t ready to say yes?

Then the gift waits. I never write anyone’s story without them wanting to tell it, and the Legacy Gift card is refundable within 12 months if your parent decides not to go ahead after a first conversation.

The work

Eight conversations, and a book your family will still be reading in fifty years.

Every film is made from words: a blessing, a memoir, or pages you’ve already written.

The promise underneath all of it

Detail may be heightened. Facts are never added.

Modern tools can write something that sounds like a memoir in an afternoon. It will be fluent, and it will contain things that never happened. That is worse than useless to a family — it is a forgery of the one thing they needed to be true.

So every factual claim in your book is traced back to the moment you said it. The craft goes into rhythm, imagery and shape. It never goes into inventing a detail because it would read well.

You choose how much craft you want, in writing, before I start.

The Visit

What happens when I come to you

Three days, or five if the story began abroad. This is how in-person work happens. Travel is billed at cost, with an estimate you approve in advance.

Day one

We talk twice, morning and afternoon, with a long break between. Nothing is rushed and we stop when you are tired, finished or not.

Day two

Two more conversations, and then we walk — the church, the house you built, the street you grew up on. All of it recorded and photographed.

Day three

The things you have kept, opened on the table and talked through properly, then photographed at the resolution the printed book needs. A family session if anyone is in town.

And the version that is worth more than the price

Going back to where the story started. The village, the mission station, the port you left from, the church that sent you.

Sometimes that means taking you. More often it means going without you, because the journey is more than you want to take on now — and coming home with the photographs, the footage, and the names of the people who still remember your family.

That is a thing almost nobody can buy at any price.

Questions people ask

Before you get in touch

Do I have to write anything?

No. Not one word, at any stage. You talk, I write, and you tell me what is right and what is not. People who would never sit down at a keyboard talk beautifully for ninety minutes.

Does AI write my book?

I use AI tools to transcribe our conversations and draft passages from your own words. Then I rewrite every sentence, check every fact against the recording, and add the craft. Nothing is added that you didn’t say. Your agreement describes this in writing.

Can you make a film from a book I already have?

Yes, that’s the Heirloom Film. You confirm the book is yours to adapt.

Are the films right for young children?

Yes. Each film is made so an 8-year-old can follow it and a teenager respects it. Hard seasons are told honestly and gently.

Is my mother going to find this too difficult?

Almost certainly not. Read the full answer for sons and daughters.

Is this only for Christians?

My work is made for families of faith; answered prayer, Scripture and blessing are at its center. The method works on any life, and the faith layer can be set aside if you’d rather.

Who actually owns the book?

The storyteller does, completely, on final payment — the manuscript, the cover, the files, everything. Your name is on it and mine is not. I will not mention that I wrote it if you would rather I did not.

When a son or daughter pays, they receive their own printed copies and a copy of the film files.

What if something happens to you before it is finished?

A fair question and nobody likes asking it. Your agreement names someone in your family who can act for you, and it says that if I cannot finish for any reason you are refunded everything except the deposit and handed the full transcript, so another writer could pick it up. You own every recording and every draft as we go.

Is there a subscription, or anything to renew?

No. One price, one book and film, yours outright. The only monthly option is for authors who choose ongoing help after a book launch, and that is always optional.

Book a story conversation

Why this exists

There is an instrument for the house. There is none for the faith it was built on.

This page is the argument, written out properly, for anyone who wants to know what I actually believe I am doing.

The gap

A family preparing to pass things down has an entire profession waiting for them. There is a will for the property. A trust for the accounts. A lawyer who does nothing else, a form for every asset, and a filing cabinet where it all ends up.

Now name the instrument for passing down what you believed. For why you kept believing it in the year it was expensive. For the thing you decided at two in the morning that nobody has ever heard about.

There is not one. No form, no appointment, no profession. The most valuable thing in the house is the only thing with no paperwork, and it transfers by accident or it does not transfer at all.

Almost every family means to. Almost none of them get to it.

Isaiah 58

“And your people will rebuild the ancient ruins;
You will raise up and restore the age-old foundations;
You will be called Repairer of the Breach,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”

Isaiah 58:12 · AMP

The breach is not a rift in a family. It is the break in transmission — the place where the telling stopped and the knowing went with it. And what gets restored is not a monument. It is a street with houses on it. Somewhere people can live.

Remembrancer

It is a real office. The King’s Remembrancer in England is the oldest judicial position still in existence, and the word means exactly what it sounds like: one who keeps the record, so that it is not forgotten.

I chose it over ghostwriter, biographer and personal historian for a simple reason. Ghostwriter quietly implies the client did not write their own life. Mine did. Every one of them.

“…and a book of remembrance was written before Him.”
Malachi 3:16 · AMP

The closing section of every book

What the Floor Is Made Of

Every book I write ends the same way, and it is the part families read first.

What you were given

What was already there when you arrived — and who put it there.

What formed you

The people, the places and the decisions that made you the person your family knows.

What grew you

The practices, the routines and the disciplines. The unglamorous part nobody sees.

What you built

The work, the family, the church, the thing that is still standing.

What it cost

The sacrifices, plainly stated. Not a complaint — an account.

What you carried alone

The struggles you did not share, so your children would not have to carry them. This is the movement that changes families, and it can be sealed until a date you choose.

Telling the next generation what the floor they stand on is made of.

Talk to me about the six movements

Who this is for

A person in their sixties, seventies or eighties who held something together — a family, a church, a business, a marriage that went through a bad decade — and who has never been asked how.

You tell it in your own words, and it becomes a film your grandchildren will watch and a book they will keep.

And if you’re their son or daughter, there’s a way for you to give this too.

And who it is not for

Anyone who wants a book that settles a score. I will not write one. Anyone who wants the story improved — a detail added because it would read better. And anyone who wants to commission their parent’s memoir without their parent wanting it, because the book only works if the person telling it wants to talk.

What you’ll walk away with

Your Opening Pages

The pages that come before chapter one of your own memoir: a short dedication blessing for the people you love, as simple or as personal as you like, and a one-page prologue of an answered prayer. Typeset to match your journal, one copy to print and one to send.

A 30-second film

Your answered prayer in your own voice, with your photograph gently brought to life, premiered for your family on night five.

A completed First Chapter journal

Arrives as a PDF before night one; your printed copy follows by post. By night five every page holds your answers.

Thirty minutes a night on Zoom, one on one, Sunday to Thursday; night five runs an hour. You answer out loud; I render your words overnight. Valued at $250, and free.

Your family is welcome at the reading on night five. That evening I also show you what the rest of the book and its film would be, and what they cost. If you commission any film that week, the full $250 value of the Challenge comes off its price.

Why this exists

“And your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up and restore the age-old foundations; You will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”

Isaiah 58:12, AMP

The breach is not a family rift. It is a gap in a wall — the break between generations where the telling stopped and the knowing went with it. Your Opening Pages repair that stretch of wall. And the last line is the point: not a monument, but somewhere the family lives.

What the five nights are not

  • Not a webinar. One on one, cameras on, thirty minutes a night
  • Not homework. You answer inside the session, before you close the call
  • Not writing. If you can talk about it, you can do this
  • Not a trap. Your Opening Pages and your film are yours whether or not you ever buy anything
